Seoul (ANTARA) – South Korea’s chemical company LG Chemical has expressed interest to build an integrated battery factory in Indonesia at a meeting with Indonesia’s Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Seoul, South Korea.
“LG is keen to invest in the ASEAN. Indonesia is among the countries that have become their focus in investment,” Kartasasmita stated here on Wednesday.
He remarked that the investment will cover the development of cell batteries, battery modules, and battery recycling facility.
“The investment will be integrated and not merely a battery (manufacturer). Hence, there will be no interruption,” he elaborated.
LG has conducted a preliminary study to make the planned investment successful, the minister stated.
At the meeting, LG also expressed keenness to conduct a study on the use of electric batteries in motorcycles to support the campaign of environment-friendly vehicle in Indonesia.
“LG is keen to conduct research on vehicle usage, especially electric motorcycles,” Kartasasmita stated.
The minister welcomed the plan and recommended Surabaya in East Java as a pilot project on the use of LG’s battery-powered motorcycle.
“This is since Surabaya has a strong commitment to creating a healthy environment,” he added.
